Thrifty Thursday: Couponing

Part of the whole couponing game that is such a pain is digging through the weekly store ads with your coupons to see where you can get the best deal on certain products. Thanks to our new favorite site, Hip 2 Save, (introduced to me by the hubby) we've been able to cut the work of couponing in half! If you haven't checked out this site, I'll warn you: you will start to become addicted. The owner of the site helps you shop for deals by posting what's on sale at different stores each week.

Her newest feature, Follow Me Monday, is a great addition that Nathan and I have loved watching! Her first Follow Me Monday was a trip to Walmart, and it inspired us so much that Nathan and I decided to take on the challenge. During Hip 2 Save's trip, she managed to get her grocery bill from $187 down to $53 with her coupon tips and tricks. (To see her full trip, watch the video below.)

Mine and Nathan's Walmart challenge ended up being so fun! We sat down beforehand and went through everything we needed that we had coupons for, then we re-watched the Hip 2 Save video for her tips. A lot of these tips were common mistakes that I was making before but now I'm aware of the manufactures game and I'm on the lookout (i.e. buying the biggest product, being afraid to stack coupons, etc.). Here's what we came away with:

Before coupons: $88.08

After coupons: $50.98

Here's a picture of our loot!
(note: most of the items were refrigerated so they couldn't be included in the picture)
A few of our "big ticket" items included:
2 Air Fresheners (the nice ones for like $5.00). I had a $4/off coupon, so we snagged them for $1!
Swiffer Sweeper Wet Replacement Cloths
Pasta (3 boxes)
Pasta Sauce (3 jars)
And more!

Thank You Hip 2 Save for changing the way we coupon! :)
